We see what the best selling photo editing software is, and whilst this does include Adobe Photoshop (no surprises there), there are other options available, without a subscription, and some of them are surprisingly affordable.
| SoftwareIf you're in the market for some photo editing software, then there are a number of obvious choices, but what else is out there, and can you get software that doesn't require a subscription? The short, and quick answer is yes! Let's have a look at what some of the best-selling options are, according to Amazon.
If you take photos, then photo editing software is pretty much an essential purchase. If you're lucky, then your camera may have come with some good photo editing software, but if you want to get more creative, then you'll want to look at some additional photo editing packages.
1. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 (PC, Mac)
Adobe Photoshop is an industry-standard, however, it's also expensive, and requires a monthly subscription, something that not everyone can afford to pay for the rest of their life. Luckily Adobe Photoshop Elements is available as a one-off purchase and gives a good level of photo editing options. You'll find tutorials on how to use Photoshop Elements here.

2. GIMP on DVD - £9.99
If you're looking for something affordable, then you can't really beat the price of this, being £9.99. It's also available for free to download from gimp.org, but if you don't have a very good internet connection, or have to pay extra when you download more data, then you can order it on disc for £9.99. It's a fairly popular alternative to Photoshop, and there are a number of different guides and tutorials on how to use GIMP, you can even find tutorials and techniques on using GIMP here on ePHOTOzine.

3. Adobe Premiere Elements 2021 (Video editing)
Fans of Adobe might look to Adobe Premiere Elements as a video editing app, as Adobe Premiere Pro, the full version is meant to be a good choice, but is expensive. So the Elements version often looks like a good choice, especially as Photoshop Elements is quite popular. However, after using Premiere Elements, and reading reviews, we'd think twice before recommending this. The software has been found to be full of bugs, is unreliable, and won't run on some people's computers. Before shelling out for video editing software, you could have a look to see if the built-in Video Editor (in Windows 10) might be able to do the job.

4. Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan (12-month subscription)
The Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan gives you access to the full version of Adobe Photoshop, as well as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, with both Lightroom Classic (Desktop), and Lightroom for use on Desktop, iPad, and Web. You get automatic updates while you're subscribed, but once the subscription ends so too does your access to the software. If you do decide to go for Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, then you'll find hundreds of tutorials on ePHOTOzine.

5. PhotoCutPro £24.99
This software lets you remove objects from images, cut the background from an image (and replace it), as well as edit photos with filters, effects, text and cropping tools. It looks quite basic in what it can do, and reviews for the software are mixed, with some liking it, and others struggling with the software. If you are looking for something to do this, then have a look at InPixio Photo Studio 10 instead.
6. Ashampoo Photo Commander 16
Photo Commander 16 from Ashampoo supports batch editing (letting you edit multiple photos at the same time), panoramic creation, raw files, GPS data, plus much much more. If you're looking for an advanced photo editing package, for not much money, then this looks to be great value for money, being available for under £20. However, there are mixed reviews on Amazon, so you might want to try before you buy.
7. Corel PaintShotPro 2021 Ultimate
Corel PaintShop Pro 2021 Ultimate is a fully featured photo editing package, with many of the features you associate with good photo editing software, including layers, and raw file support. We had a look at the previous 2020 version. It's one of the best sellers on Amazon USA, but has mixed reviews, so you may want to have a look at a trial before purchase.

- InPixio Photo Studio 10 Pro - with 50% off, this is available from £30/£40 depending on the version.
- PortraitPortraitPro V21 - designed specifically for editing portraits, from £40.
- Nik Collection by DXO, around £90 (with a special offer).
