Booq Python Toploader Camera Bag Review: Python Toploader

The Booq Python Toploader camera bag enables the user to carry a large DSLR with a long lens attached, or a more compact DSLR with a  smaller lens attached and another small lens underneath the padded divider. It is a sleek looking bag that seems well made from good quality materials. Booq specialise in high quality bags, cases and covers for laptops, iPads and cameras.

Booq Python Toploader Camera Bag Features

The Booq Python Toploader has a unique barcode inside, which means that the bag can be returned to you if lost and found. Booq can then contact you if the bag is found and reported to the Terralinq service by registering the bag to yourself. This Terralinq technology could re-unite you with your equipment should it ever be stolen or lost.

The bag also features high quality dense padding, and is manufactured from 1680D ballistic nylon, a very tough material, and is water repellant.

Booq Python Toploader Handling And Performance

The bag has a robust and easy to grip handle on top, and has a fully adjustable seatbelt quality nylon strap which is held in place by poppers and velcro, leaving zero chance of the strap accidentally coming undone.

The smooth zips make it easy to get into the bag, and it is also really easy to lift your equipment out thanks to the sleek design and inward facing opening of the bag. The side pockets are also quick and easy to access, and feature several elasticated pouches to store your memory cards and other small equipment safely. It also features a detachable key chain holder, to enable safe storage and quick access to your keys.

The bag feels really well made and has a touch of class, with its metal loops around the strap attachments to ensure there is no fraying of the material through rubbing.

The inner camera compartment divider is secured by velcro and is easily positioned to add a layer of protection between the spare lens and the end of the attached one. If you choose to use the bag with a larger DSLR and one lens, the divider can be used to create a snug fit by laying flush to the side. It is well designed for access to your equipment, and also keeps your equipmet safe with its densely padded lining.

The bag on its own is really light, weighting just 0.75kg when empty, despite all its features.

Booq Python Toploader Value For Money

At £79.10, the Booq is a considerable investment. However, the add ons such as the Terralinq service, and the high quality of the bag itself all could make you think it's worth it.

If you're looking for a stylish and sleek bag that is made out of the best meterials and will still give you good protection, then this bag is a good choice.

Vanguard's Pampas II Range can hold up to the same level of equipment as the Booq, for around £35. Their bag lacks the side pockets, but does have a large mesh zip pocket on the closing flap. It also has rubber feet on the bottom, which the Booq does not have. Lowepro's Toploader Zoom 50 AW looks very similar to the Booq, and has one big front pocket. It is available for £27.16.

Booq Python Toploader Verdict

Compared to bags that are of a similar shape and fit roughly the same amount of kit, the Booq offering is a little on the expensive side. But, if you are in the market for a very high quality bag, and want to pay top dollar for something that is guaranteed to last you a long time, then this bag will definitely suit your needs. The added inclusion of the Terralinq tracking bar code is tempting, especially if your kit is top of the range. This could prove invaluable should your kit be stolen or lost and you have registered with the scheme. The Booq is a very nice looking bag that has a high quality finish which sets it apart from the competition.

i've found that booq quality is quite bad. i have their Python Sling and the strap is already falling apart on the FIRST USE. There was only a Macbook air and dslr with one lens inside.
Actually, when upon first inspection there is alot of loose strings throughout the bag. My impression is the bag is assembled very poorly. The designs look smart but it's just cheap quality. The reseller passed the buck and recommended deal with Booq directly. I'm still awaiting a response from Booq. Echo Echo... Booq anyone working in your CS?
