Canon have announced two new CCD based flatbed scanners in the 2400 x 4800
dpi range - the CanoScan 5000F and the CanoScan 8000F.
With 48 bit internal and external colour depth, USB 2.0 High Speed, and with
the inclusion of improved Film Adapter Units, both scanners are ideally suited
for high resolution scanning of both documents and film.
The integrated Film Adapter Unit (FAU) is an element, which adds both quality
and speed to this scanner and now allows for continuous scanning of multiple
frames of 35-mm film. The film adapter unit is also capable of scanning at a
resolution of 2400dpi and has an infrared light source for the FARE function.
"These two new scanners offer users the style and design expected from
Canon scanners, along with high performance and quality.' Said Clare Robertson,
General Manager - Marketing, Canon Consumer Imaging. "Offering fast scanning
for documents as well as film, Canon is proud to add these two new models to
its already strong line-up."
The CanoScan 5000F and 8000F scanners bring high quality, high speed scanning
to a new attractive price point and form part of Canon's extended product line-up
in the 2400 dpi market segment. The inclusion of FARE (Film Automatic Retouching
and Enhancement) makes them an ideal choice for advanced amateur photographers
who wish to convert film images to digital.
Both new scanners enhance usability with 4 'EZ' buttons for simple one-touch
copying, scanning, filing and emailing. These easy-to-use buttons in combination
with the CanoScan Toolbox software make scanner operation easier by reducing
the number of steps required to perform common tasks.
The CanoScan 5000F is Canon's most affordable 2400 x 4800 dpi scanner with FAU
for the home and photo user. It conforms to Canon's renowned slim, stylish design
in scanners and sports pearl mica finish, which subtly changes colour when viewed
from different angles. This finish, combined with the smoke grey of the operation
panel exemplifies the fusion of superb performance with stylish innovation.
The new 2400 dpi Hyper CCD sensor extracts all the detail from scanned documents
to produce high quality, precise reproductions that can be can be enlarged many
times. The 48-bit internal and external colour depth further helps to deliver
great quality scans with detailed shadows and defined highlights.
The USB 2.0 High Speed interface is an important element in making the CanoScan
5000F such a high performance scanner. High 2400 dpi resolution scanning is
now a reality as this model is almost 4x faster than predecessors.
The 5000F is equipped with an FAU capable of scanning three frames of 35mm
film in a single pass. In addition, the Canon developed FARE technology automatically
eliminates image defects caused by dirt and/or scratches on the film. This function
uses infrared scanning to detect and quantify imperfections in the original
film media and has been improved in the CanoScan 5000F for better compatibility
with Kodachrome film and more accurate detection and elimination of dirt and
The CanoScan 8000F has an aluminium cover to offer users both high performance
and high style.
Along with its stylish design, the CanoScan 8000F employs a new 2400 dpi Hyper
CCD sensor with diamond pixels and anti-reflective coating. The hexagonal-shaped
pixels (diamond pixels) result in an increase in accuracy, which results in
sharper, more detailed scans. Furthermore, anti-reflective coating has been
applied to the pixel surface so that sensitivity on the CCD is improved by 10%
over the previous CanoScan D2400UF.
The 8000F comes equipped with a large FAU capable of scanning up to 12 frames
of 35mm film in a single pass. The CanoScan 8000F also utilises Canon-developed
FARE technology. This technology automatically eliminates image defects caused
by dirt and/or scratches on the film. FARE on the CanoScan 8000F has been improved
for better compatibility with Kodachrome film and more accurate detection and
removal of dirt and scratches.
The fast, one-pass Multi-Photo function allows the CanoScan 8000F to scan a
whole page of pictures in a single pass and then separate the images. The benefit
of this is much faster scanning, regardless of the number of originals on the
scanner bed. If images are skewed they are automatically straightened, ready
to be sent direct as email attachments, translated into PDF files, copied at
high speed, or sent directly to a printer for improved productivity.
The CanoScan 5000F and 8000F support both PC and Mac and include a full suite
of advanced imaging software including ArcSoft PhotoStudio and PhotoBase, plus
ScanSoft OmniPage SE for OCR work. In addition, the CanoScan 8000F is supplied
with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Canon PhotoRecord applications.
