Canon remote control system

Canon has announced the development of a new remote control system for its interchangeable lens cameras, allowing sports photographers to make adjustments remotely after setting their kit up.

The remote control system has been designed to allow professionals in the journalism and sports fields to be able to control their cameras whilst taking a step back from the setup.

"Aimed at stills photographers the Remote Control Pan-Tilt System and Camera Remote Application can control multiple Remote Control Pan-Tilt Systems and cameras from a single PC. This enables a single operator to control multiple cameras, contributing to efficient photography workflows - particularly useful when shooting sports. The remote control solution enables photographers to capture images from a variety of angles and viewpoints, allowing them to shoot images not possible through conventional shooting methods."

Canon say they are working on developing the system further to make it suitable for a wider range of shooting scenarios such as TV and media production.

Nikon exhibited something similar at Photokina 2014, which consisted of a bending arm mounted on camera rails.
