Canon have start off the year with a bang by introducing no less than five new Bubble Jet printers. All take advantage of Canon's Single Ink technology, so that there's no need to throw away unused ink when a single colour runs out. They feature High Colour inks to give more vibrant colours on plain paper; utilise Drop Modulation Technology to give greater depth of colour and subtle shading; and feature a Photo Optimizer PRO printer driver that optimises colour brightness and density prior to printing.
Let's take a look at each of the new models in turn.
The Bubble Jet S400 is a basic, entry-level machine that offers USB connectivity only and sells for around 89.
The Bubble Jet S450 has been designed with the SOHO user in mind. It produces high quality photographic images suitable for most office applications and can print colour pages at up to seven pages per minute at 1440dpi. Price is around 119.
The Bubble Jet 4500 costs rather more, at 299, but for the extra you get A3 output and Apple Mac compatibility. Using an optional BC-32e photo cartridge enables the printer's performance to be enhanced to six-colour output. What's more, slotting Canon's optional IS-32 Colour Image Scanner Cartridge in place of the print head transforms the S4500 into a versatile scanner capable of handling originals up to A3 in size.
The Bubble Jet S600 was conceived with more advanced users in mind. It offers true 2400x1200dpi resolution and is claimed to produce better quality photo output than any other inkjet in its class. The S600 features both Parallel and USB interfaces, with both Windows and iMac/iBook/G3/G4 connectivity.
The Bubble Jet S800 is described by Canon as 'the ultimate photo printer' which 'produces better photographic quality images than ever before' . Thanks to technological advances, more ink is applied more accurately, producing prints in which the colours are more accurate and more natural, with improved gradation in the mid-tones. Speed has also been improved, and you can expect an A4 colour photograph to be printed in around two minutes at 1200dpi. 25 years of lightfastness is claimed for the unit when used with Canon's new High Colour Inks and Canon's Photo Paper Pro. The price of the S800 is in the region of 329.
