The Canon EF 200-400mm f/4 L IS USM lens is new from Canon, and they were showing a pre-production model at Focus On Imaging 2013. We had a quick hands-on look at the new lens, with built in 1.4x tele-convertor, this can be switched into place for 560mm at the telephoto end, as shown below. Canon has not yet set a price, or release date for the lens.

With the converter included it would be a great and extremely versatile lens for animal photography and I get this feeling I'd love one but I've no doubt it's going to cost a huge sum of money.
