The Canon EOS 850D is a 24MP DSLR with DIGIC 8 processor and 4K video for those with an existing collection of EF/EF-S lenses.
| Canon EOS 850D (Rebel T8i) in Digital SLRsThe Canon EOS 850D (Rebel T8i) has been announced and in a time when we're surrounded by mirrorless camera launches, it could catch the eye of those still wanting to use a more traditional, beginner-friendly DSLR that's also compatible with a wide selection of lenses that are already available.
With the Canon EOS 850D, you get a 24.1MP Dual Pixel CMOS APS-C sensor and the new Digic 8 processor which increases continuous shooting to 7fps and should improve its overall performance, too. There's also a new 220,000 Pixel RGB+IR metering sensor.
4K video at 25p is now available along with Face Tracking and Canon's Intelligent Tracking AF (autofocus) system. Face Tracking is available while using the optical viewfinder but if you prefer to use LiveView on the 3-inch vari-angle touchscreen, Eye Detect AF is available. Also, when capturing stills with Live View, you can select focus from 143 points in automatic mode or 3975 points in manual selection thanks to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system. The 45 point all cross-type AF sensor is the same as we've seen on previous Canon DSLRs.
As the Canon EOS 850D is part of Canon's EOS system, it is compatible with any Canon EF or Canon EF-S lens, from macro to telephoto, and you can also attach a Speedlight flash or external mic via the 3.5mm jack when capturing 4K video or Full HD footage at up to 60p. To reduce shake when capturing video, 5-Axis Movie Digital IS is built-in.
Remote shooting is available along with RAW capture which includes a C-RAW format that produces a smaller file size that almost doubles the continuous shooting buffer from 40 images to 75.
Other features include the ability to quickly share and back-up images via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. Photographers can connect the Canon EOS 850D to their iOS or Android device through the Canon Camera Connect app, to edit and share images via social media channels or with other smart devices. DPP Express for iPad can also be used to edit RAW images on-the-go and there's an Auto Image Sync option available that automatically backs up stills and video.
