The Canon M series has just got that little bit bigger with the introduction of the Canon EOS M10 CSC camera.
| Canon EOS M10 in Mirrorless CamerasThe Canon M series, which was born way back in 2012, has got a new family member and this one's called the Canon EOS M10 - it is introduced with a new Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens with built in optical image stabilisation.
Canon EOS M10 Compact System Camera Features
The Canon EOS M10 is Canon's latest mirrorless compact system camera and features an 18 Megapixel sensor with Hybrid CMOS AF II system. The camera features a tilting touch screen, plus a built-in flash Wi-Fi and Dynamic NFC connectivity. The Canon EOS M3 is available for £309.99 (body only) with a new EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens. You'll be able to get your hands on the new EOS M family member from November in two colours: black and white.
When the EOS M10 is used with the new lens, Dynamic IS stabilises camera shake when capturing stills or movies, plus the Hybrid CMOS AF II and a 49-point AF system onboard the EOS M10 means that movies can be captured with continuous focus without any problems.
Canon EOS M10 Key Features
- 18.0 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor
- EF-M lens mount
- 49 point Hybrid CMOS AF II system
- Phase detection pixels built into the sensor
- 3inch tilting touch-screen, 1040k dots
- ISO100-25600 (extended)
- 4.6fps continuous shooting
- FullHD video at 30,25,24fps, stereo sound
- Creative assist, Hybrid Auto
- Wi-Fi and NFC
- Remote shooting
- 255 shot battery life
On the back you'll find a 3inch touchscreen that's tiltable up to 180 degrees and selfie fans will be happy to hear that the camera automatically launches a Self Portrait Mode when the screen is tipped to its maximum angle.
Controls are actually very minimalistic (there's a lot less than the M3 sports), giving the camera body a very slick and clean finish. There is, however, a front dial that's easily accessible and provides quick access to advanced settings such as shutter speed and aperture. For those who aren't as custom to using manual settings, the Creative Assist Mode makes a return which removes all the photography jargon less-experienced photographers may find confusing to make it easy for the user to adjust commonly changed settings. Menus are easy to navigate and are also customisable.
Those who download the EOS Canon Camera Connect app can take advantage of wireless remote shooting with full manual control when using the M10 and Wi-Fi can be used for transferring and storing images.
The EOS M10 is a very stylish camera that has a very modern feel to it, the white version is particularly eye-catching. Controls are kept to a minimum and there's a well-positioned and useful grip to the right of the screen. The camera fits well in the hand and doesn't feel bulky or unbalanced even when a longer lens is fitted to it. The camera is simple to use, even more so with the built-in Creative Assist Mode, and the menu systems are easy to navigate.
The Canon EOS M10 is capable of producing bright and colourful images, with good colour, as you would expect from a Canon camera, and it's also available at a competitive price point for under £300 including the 15-45mm lens.

I can't help but think however, this is a camera designed very much not to step on any toes in the Canon portfolio and therefore is a very compromised piece of equipment.
