Compact Cameras

The familiar tiny proportions, luxurious stainless steel body and engineering excellence of the amazing new Canon Digital Ixus V will not come as a surprise to owners and fans of the original Digital Ixus.
The new ultra-compact Canon Digital Ixus V retains style and sophisticated good looks while still delivering powerful Canon digital technology. On closer inspection you'll see the real difference from its predecessor is inside the slick brushed-steel case.
In addition to still image mode, the new model offers a movie mode capable of capturing high resolution VGA movies, and with up to 30 seconds of full motion-picture movie clips complete with sound, you never miss the whole story.
There's a 2x optical zoom lens (35-70mm equivalent) and 2.11 million pixel capture. A seamless digital zoom allows the Ixus V user complete freedom when composing a shot, while a powerful built-in flash fires automatically, when required.
When the going gets tough, the Digital Ixus V really comes into its own. Even in low light conditions its AiAF (Artificial Intelligent Auto Focus) and AIM (Advanced Integrated Multi-point Metering) will ensure reproductions with a single click of the shutter button.
By linking the Digital Ixus V to Canon's Card Photo Printer CP-10 photos can be printed in seconds. Users simply select an image and the Digital Ixus V does the rest, automatically optimising the image and sending it to the printer, which then produces a perfect print.
A new adaptive digital signal processor and RGB CCD filter contribute to faithful and vibrant colour reproduction, while noise reduction is used for shutter speeds longer than 1/6sec, improving the clarity and detail of the images.
With additional power-saving designs the Ixus V's Li-ion batteries last longer than ever before. Images are recorded onto Type-1 CompactFlash cards.
The Canon Digital Ixus is available from June at around 450.
