Canon Project 1709

Canon has updated its Project 1709 beta, introducing version 1.1 that offers users the option of full Flickr integration, as well as new management and organisation features.

Project 1709 version 1.1 now makes it possible to publish images and comments directly to Flickr from within the Project 1709 interface, as well as to pull in images already stored on Flickr, allowing users to enjoy their photographs from an even wider range of social networks.

A series of enhanced functions and management tools have also been added providing greater flexibility to manage and organise images. Project 1709 now includes the ability to edit file names, rotate and delete images and create albums, along with improved search functionality, allowing users to filter images by ‘All’ and ‘Any’ tags.

These new features and functionalities have been added to Project 1709 following feedback and requests from photography enthusiasts who have joined the beta programme since its launch at Photokina in September 2012. Canon will continue development of the service in the run up to a full public launch in 2013.

Project 1709 - Key Features:
  • Store a lifetime of your images
  • Find any image when you need it
  • Access all your photos anytime, everywhere
  • Enjoy and make the most of your photos
  • Improve your photos to make them the best they can be

Those interested in participating in the beta can register at the Project 1709 website.

I've tried and tried and tried to upload images to this "beta". Canon 1709 don't read emails, cannot fix my issues with their site - they screwed up my account so I've given up with it. There are plenty of other places I can upload photographs to - I don't have the time to waste with a frankly dreadful UI and very poor technical solution.

They kept sending me e-mails, then went I went to log on said my e-mail wasn't recognised!! When I finally got in the software started to take over my computer. I've given up too!

I am still using it. You don't need to download any software, if you don't want to, as you can upload from the site itself: just like epz. I think it is aimed at storing your images rather than sharing them. I guess they are hoping they can charge an annual fee eventually. Still early days.

Been using canon project 1709 for some time now, Canon have been making some major improvements recently including ability to share on facebook if you want, and put images into albums.
It's still in the beta stage but Canon are making good use of that and listening to users.
Will be interesting to see the end result when the beta finishes and it goes public.
