Canon logoWhile Canon fans await the signs of a release of a 5D Mark II or 3D camera, a recent software update from Canon has suggested an entry level model may make an appearance first.

Version 3.4 of their DPP (Digital Photo Professional) RAW Image Update Converter mentioned a Rebel XS / EOS 1000D in its compatibility list, a model that does not yet exist. So does this mean it is soon to be hitting our shelves?

Speculation is furthered by the fact that the software update has now mysteriously disappeared.

Rumour has it that if the XS / EOS 1000D should appear any time soon, it will be a lower-end version of the Rebel XSi made to replace the outdated Rebel XT.

When asked to comment on rumours about the new model, Robyn Rendle, Canon's PR Coordinator said “Canon never comment on rumours regarding future products.

The EOS 1000D Rumour/speculation has been gaining pace for at least few months, Canon have “mistakenly” added and then removed software updates before and they have turned out to be from a camera that did later get released, its maybe a carrot dangling ploy because they know there are people constantly looking for “leaks” and will report it globaly for them.

One can only wonder though, what they could remove from the Rebel XSi it almost seems like a backward step unless they want to have an ultra budget DSLR

Wont make a difference to me either way.

For me, the strangest thing about the '1000D' rumour is that the Canon didn't go for this years ago.

Still, if the 1000D is launched in the Autumn, then maybe the 5D2 will not be...

Did this not happen with the 5D?
It may have, I remember something similar happening a while ago, but can’t remember what camera it related to, probably was the 5D as at the time it was a ground breaking camera, infact still probably has no real competition due to its price and a FF sensor.
Canon don’t seem in any hurry to replace it.

I seem to remember the EOS 1000D speculation going back quite some time now, maybe as far back as the 5D release.

Time will tell I guess.
