Canon lens roadmap

Canon have released a new lens roadmap showing 6 lenses which are currently under development, and due to be released in 2019. These new lenses will join the four current RF lenses, that are already available, the RF 50mm f/1.2L USM, the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM and the RF 28-70mm f/2L USM.

The lenses shown on the roadmap, that we can expect to be released in 2019, are as follows:

  • RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • RF 85mm f/1.2L USM
  • RF 85mm f/1.2L USM ‘DS’

DS stands for defocus smoothing, which means that the lens should give out of focus areas in the shot a different look to normal bokeh.

Also announced today is a new mirrorless body from Canon, the 26mp Canon EOS RP. Take a look at our hands-on with the new camera.

Buy a used EF 1.2/85mm and adapt it to an A7Riii or A7iii. That lens is so much more useful with IBIS and eye-af in af-s mode! And the Sony sensor is much better, anyway. Even the now cheap A7Rii beats the Canon "R u serious" and the "RiP". But the Canon fanboys will buy those mediocre plastic bombers, so maybe the prices of used EF lenses will decrease.
