Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI Hands-On Sample Photos: Canon Speedlite 470EX AI (1)

Canon's new Speedlite 470EX-AI is a flashgun with AI (Artificial Intelligence) which is designed to be used for bounce flash, you can use the flash in fully automatic mode or semi-automatic modes. The motorized flash will automatically position itself for the best position for bounce flash off the ceiling or a nearby wall. Half pressing the shutter release button twice will re-position the flash after you’ve moved the camera. You can see the flash in action, in the video below. The flash will be available for £499.

Why? Because they can I guess. It seems to me that this is just one more piece of equipment that is designed to make life easier for the uninitiated and try to negate the need for basic technique. The question then is, Who from the ranks of the uninitiated would have the thick end of half a grand to spend on a flash gun no matter how many bells and whistles?
