Fruits

'Tasty and colourful' are the two words photographer Markus Pettersson uses to describe his latest collection of images and he's pretty spot-on with his description. The collection, which is bursting with still life shots of fruit and veg against vibrant backgrounds, was inspired by commercial stock photos Markus has seen and has he had some spare time over the festive break, he decided to work on his own colourful still life project.

There's an in-depth tutorial as well as a free to download layered PSD file you can play around with on Markus Pettersson's website, plus Markus has put the below video tutorial together, too.

Markus' basic set-up included four flashes on tripods, plus a Canon Speedlite he occasionally used hand-held. A flash with a softbox attached was used as the main light for his set-up and two other lights placed either side created highlights. Another flash was used behind the tracing paper background to light it. Sliced fruit and vegetables were supported by sewing thread and fishing line and around 3 hours of editing time was needed per image to perfect the photos which included extracting the fruit / veg, cleaning the image up, adding a new background and on some of the images, a fake shadow was also added.

More detailed information on the shoot, along with further information on the post-production work can be found in Markus' free tutorial
