Print to Prove it campaign

Fujifilm and professional lab One Vision Imaging have teamed up to challenge photographers to see the difference in quality that professionally printed photos on Fujifilm paper can deliver. The Print to Prove It campaign, which offers photographers three free prints on a choice of Fujifilm lustre or gloss paper, is available now. In this article, you can find out more about the Print To Prove It challenge and everything you need to know about achieving the best photo printing results.

Why Print To Prove It?

Print To Prove It aims to show photographers the amazing results that can be achieved when professionally printing on Fujifilm photographic paper. Although this is a fact well known to Derek Poulston, Managing Director of One Vision Imaging, throughout his career he has noticed that many photographers can be disappointed with their prints. So confident that they would be amazed by professional printing results, Derek and Fujifilm have committed to offering photographers the chance to try it for free.

Explaining how printing to get the best results can be a challenge, Derek says: "One example of where photographers have been left disappointed by their prints is following the introduction of ‘fine art’, or giclée printing. A number of photographers were led to believe that this new media would be the best printed results for their work; however when the ‘fine art’ prints arrived, the appearance was often not as expected.

Frequently, it was simply that the photo they wanted to print was not suitable for fine art printing and yet perfect for photographic printing. In response, we began to send a selection of different style photographic prints along with the fine art prints to demonstrate the differences in printing styles. As a business, we found that this helped our customers see for themselves which printing style fitted their image."

Since 2018, the campaign has been running in different iterations to show photographers of all levels what their work can look like when printed professionally. In this latest chapter of the campaign, One Vision is working with Fujifilm to allow even more photographers to take up the challenge and Print To Prove It.

Before Printing

Professional photo labs like One Vision can offer no-obligation advice on picture quality

Getting the best quality photo prints is reliant on the processes carried out before the image goes to the printer. Professional photo labs like One Vision can offer no-obligation advice if unsure. For instance, if you have ever printed a photo and the colours aren’t as they appeared on screen, then colour management and calibration settings of your computer screen could be the issue.

Colour management is essentially the method used to control the colour accuracy of photo files, and calibration refers to the settings on your monitor so you see the true colour. At a professional lab, assistance is always made available to ensure that the right settings are used to control colour accuracy so that the print is true to what is seen on a screen. Colour correction can also be offered, alongside density and contrast editing.

If you choose to take up the Print To Prove It offer, this is a good opportunity to see how your images will translate to print.

Paper Choices

When choosing a photographic paper to print on, the desired finish and where the printed photograph will be displayed should both be considered. Whether you are selecting the paper type for personal use or you need to advise those purchasing photography prints from you, the best results will be achieved by thinking carefully about your selection. The Print To Prove It offer has a choice of either Lustre or Gloss:

  • Lustre Photographic Paper - The Industry Staple: Lustre is the durable and versatile choice that has long been the staple choice for professionals, who favour its smooth and non-reflective surface, and enjoy the fact that it is fingerprint-resistant. It is less likely to become blemished or damaged when handled and gives off little glare, so is ideal for photo albums, presentation printing and framing. Suiting many styles and colour palettes, it is arguably best at producing lifelike, natural colour tones.
  • Gloss Photographic Paper - Punchy and Striking: Characterised by its shiny, standout finish, gloss paper produces strong and vibrant colour saturation. This style boosts contrast and produces an exceptionally sharp image, so gloss is best for social and lifestyle photography with bold colours. For best results, ensure that a gloss photograph is displayed on walls that are not in direct light and do not frame pieces behind glass or Perspex.
