Hi Paul,

We're not the only site finding the battery life of the 4 XL lacklustre:

Yes, the 4XL has more mAh than the 3XL, but that does not mean that battery life is going to be better, particularly if the screen (or other components) use more power. (The Pixel 4 has less mAh than the 3).

Not sure you are actually really reviewing with a phone as this has a bigger battery than my 3XL and the battery on that lasts all day easily, and I use mine. You say "it drains quickly; you only have to glance at the battery icon to see the gauge emptying" has to be absolute rubbish. Google with Android have done a great deal to make the battery power last longer they would not compromise their flagship phone in this way. Lets see some proper data rather than an opinion based on the specs. Then I look at your iPhone reviews and I can clearly see what's going on here....if Apple say it's okay it must be so. Not impressed.

I was interested in buying a Huawei P Smart mobile phone. Then I heard from reliable sources that the Chinese Government have issued a pronouncement that I find very disturbing. That is the population of China have been told that if they know of any Christians then if they report on them to the authorities they will receive payments. Christians reported on will then be sent to detention centres where they will be tortured and " re-educated ". As many readers know there are huge detention centres housing Muslims as well. As far as I can I have made a decision not to buy Chinese goods if I can possibly do so.

Just a pity about the over-processed look, when one opens the 40mp shot of the trees, the branches and foliage look quite unnatural due to heavy processing, was really hoping Huawei would start dialling back the processing for a more natural look like the age old Nokia 808 which had very natural looking details...

I cannot see great detail, in fact the 48mp image of the house, looks very blocky.. Until it can shot RAW images and not convert them to jpg, then having such a high res sensor, is a total waste of time.. None of the images in the sample gallery were that impressive at all. I'll stick to my DSLR.. For me, smartphone cameras, despite all the hype, are nothing but a gimmick. Yes there are a few out there, that are pretty impressive for their size and the images on the tiny screens, area very passable, but for any serious photographer, they are never going to come close to a full blown DSLR. They may be less expensive, take up less space, be more convenient etc.. but for me, I prefer a real camera. I'm sure I'l get a lot of backlash for saying that, but hey, everyone has an opinion and they are entitled to it.

Looking at those images I'd say that 48mp is a complete waste of time and merely there as a marketing number!
My 'ancient' iPhone 6s does better.

How about comparing classical long exposure and RAW processing for the smartphones too? Especially the 40MP Sensors could deliver great results.

Looks fantastic but it is a pity that Samsung are doing that greedy thing of suppressing Android standards like Google Search, Google Assistant, Google Photos etc and putting their own, usually inferior, software such as Bixby front stage. It's such a shame that when people who aren't very techie buy this they will be very confused by it
