When looking at any screen from a close distance for a prolonged period of time most will experience eye fatigue and the effect can be much stronger on those who use computer monitors regularly.
Here are some tips on how you can reduce eye fatigue when working with monitors.
Light reflecting off monitors can cause eye strain and one way to combat this is by fitting a monitor hood or an anti-glare screen to your monitor. Some screens feature non-glare panels which dissipate reflective light so harsh circles of light don't appear on screen. You can also reduce reflections by positioning your monitor away from windows where direct sunlight can reach it.
We've talked about adjusting the brightness of your monitor but have you considered what the lighting is like in the room you're working in? Bright indoor lights and a large amount of sunlight falling through windows can both add to eye stain problems. Fit blinds to windows and if possible, try and reduce the lighting in your workspace if you find it to be a problem.
Take A Break
It's an obvious point but one many of us are guilty of not doing. Taking short breaks away from your screen will be beneficial but it doesn't mean you have to stop working. Of course, feel free to go and put the kettle on but you could also look at paper work or complete some other work-related task that doesn't involve your screen for a short period of time.
