Specification
The Cullmann SMARTpano 360CP is a tripod with a wirelessly controlled panorama head. The device can be used to mount a small camera, smartphone or GoPro style action camera. It's bluetooth compatible, so you can connect your phone to the device and remotely take images. It's available in black and black and green models. Let's see how it performs.
Cullmann SMARTpano 360CP Features
In the box, there is:
- Cullman Magnesit Copter tripod (also available separately)
- Electronic panorama head
- Remote control
- Smartphone mount
- Action camera mount
- USB cable
- Drawstring bag
The smart pano head can also be used on its own, without the tripod if you wish and has 3 small legs that fold away flush with the body. There is a power button and a micro USB port to charge the device. The mount on the head rotates, helping you to choose the degree of rotation.
The Magnesit Copter tripod feels sturdy, well made and can be held in the hand when folded away to give a more secure grip, rather than holding a smartphone in 2 hands. It has a metal construction and rubberised feet as well as a textured rubberised section on top around the mount to hold the camera firm.
The smartphone / action mounts simply screw on to the tripod mount and then you can secure your smartphone or action cam.
The remote control allows you to adjust the speed of rotation. You can also press the arrow buttons to pan your desired amount, press the multi-direction button to pan left then right constantly. The camera button allows you to take an image when a smartphone is synced to the device and the 10 second button allows you to make the camera pan for 10 seconds and then stop.
Key Features
- Allows for smooth, accurate panning with your smartphone, action cam or small camera
- Remote control via bluetooth, no shake caused by touching the mount
- Free app to sync your smartphone with the device
- Tripod can be used as hand grip
Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP Handling
The Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP is easy to set up and use. Once your device is mounted, and the smart head is charged, hold the power button to turn it on. A blue light will appear on the side and start to flash. This means it's searching for Bluetooth devices. Turn the Bluetooth on your device on, if you're using a smartphone, to pair it with the smart head.
Then, you can use the remote to change the speed, and pan the image using the arrows. if you want it to stop panning at any time, press the blue button on the remote. You can use the camera button to trigger a smartphone to take an image via Bluetooth if paired. We mounted a Panasonic GX7 mirrorless camera on the spinning head - and it did spin without issue. The max recommended weight for the head is 500g.
Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP Performance
The Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP Is a comprehensive tool in terms of panning and the fact that you can adjust the speed of the pan is a nice touch. The remote supplied with the tripod kit can be a little temperamental and sometimes it didn't respond when pressed the first time. It helps though if you position the tripod so that the sensor is facing you.
The tripod stayed sturdy and the legs can be positioned at different angles, although they don't have fixed angles. The rubber grips definitely help when placing the tripod on rough surfaces.
Value For Money
The Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP is available for £60.45. Alternatives include the Rollei ePano Selfie which is available for £45.75 but doesn't include a tripod.
This is a fair price for a metal tripod manufactured in Germany, plus a Bluetooth enabled pano head with several different mounts and a remote control, something that other panoramic heads don't include.
Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP Verdict
Overall, the Cullmann SMARTPano 360CP is a great investment for those that want to be able to achieve smooth panoramas, whether it be videos or images. There is a good amount of versatility to the functions of the mount and the fact that you can also trigger the smartphone to take an image through the remote is a nice touch.
This kit is good because you can also use the metal tripod on its own, or the head at once, if you don't want to use both at the same time.
