Tips For Shooting In Sunlight With Tamron Lenses: Silhouettes

Summer sun can be a bit harsh at times for photography and can potentially ruin images, if you don't know how to deal with it. Here, we run through some top tips for creating better images in summer sun with a Tamron lens:

Use a lens hood

A lens hood is ideal for blocking out rays from the sides or top of your image, by stopping the light from directly hitting the lens, a bit like how a hat protects your eyes. This should help you to minimise overly blown out areas, and stop lens flare from occurring when it's unwanted.

Use an ND filter

An ND filter adjusts the brightness of the shot, leaving the colours alone, allowing you to shoot at a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without blowing the shot out. They are also ideal for water photography, allowing you to get that silky water look with slower shutter speeds.

Use the sun to create silhouettes

Summer is a great time to have a go at silhouette photography. You'll need to shoot into the setting sun ideally, and position your subject before focusing on the light of the sunset to throw your subject into shadow. Silhouettes of people, trees and buildings all work well.

Use flare creatively

Flare can be used creatively to create some interesting effects. You'll need to shoot from a low angle, and you may need to set the camera to manual, as it will do all it can to avoid producing flare. Flare is a great tool for creating an ethereal, fairytale like mood in your shots.

Lens coating

Tamron lenses use eBAND technology, which is a new coating technique developed by Tamron. This multilayer nano coating technique has significant anti-reflection properties, reducing undesired flare and ghosting to a minimum, helping you to get sharp, crisp images every time you shoot.
