Panasonic are at this year's Photokina and the new product announcements are coming thick and fast with the Lumix G80, LX15 and FZ2000 kicking-off the 'what's new' list and now, the development of the Panasonic GH5 has been announced.

Following in the footsteps of the GH4, the CSC GH5 is set to enter the market during the first half of 2017 and it will have an 18Mp sensor, 6K / 30p and 4:2:2 10-bit 4K / 60p video capabilities as well as 8Mp / 60fps stills shooting.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 will be the first Panasonic camera to feature '6K Photo' which allows users to extract approximately 18Mp-equivalent still images from ultra-high quality video with approximately 9x higher resolution than Full HD. As well as 6K, '4K Photo' is also available that allows approximately 8-megapixel equivalent still images to be extracted from a video shot at 60fps.

The new Leica zoom lens series featured on the development roadmap feature aperture ranges from f/2.8 - 4.0 and they're all suitable for stills and video capture. The three new lenses listed are:

  • 8-18mm f/2.8-4.0 (16-36mm equivalent)
  • 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 (24-120mm equivalent)
  • 50-200mm f/2.8-4.0 (100-400mm equivalent)

Are the new lenses weather sealed?
That would be the kicker for me, at least for the 12-60mm.
