DJI Phantom 4 Pro And Inspire 2 Announced With New Cameras: Inspire 2

DJI has announced two new drones, along with new cameras. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro will retail for £1589 with a standard controller or £1819 for the Phantom 4 Pro+ with a high luminance controller from dji.com/phantom-4-pro

The DJI Inspire 2 aircraft will retail for £3059 on it's own or £6398 for the Inspire 2 Combo with aircraft, Zenmuse X5S Micro Four Thirds camera, and CinemaDNG and AppleProRes License keys from dji.com/inspire-2.

The DJI Inspire 2 comes with a new camera mounting system that lets you fit one of two new cameras:

  • Zenmuse X4S, 20mp, 1inch sensor, f/2.8-11 24mm equivalent lens, 11.6 stops of dynamic range
  • Zenmuse X5S, 20.8mp Micro Four Thirds sensor, 20fps Raw shooting, 12.8 stops of dynamic range

The drone has a number of improvements including a lighter, stiffer magnesium-aluminium alloy body, a top speed of 67mph, a dual battery system, a new forward facing camera for the best flight view, with a separate feed from the new Zenmuse cameras. The new mounting system will support additional cameras in the future. The video has been updated to record 5.2K resolution at 30fps, 4K video at 60fps, and a bitrate of 100Mbps. There's also a self-heating battery system so that the drone can fly in temperatures as low as -4F, or -20C. There's built in front, bottom and top obstacle detection.

Intelligent flight modes include "Spotlight Pro Mode" to lock onto a subject, plus TapFly, and ActiveTrack to make it easy to create impressive videos of your subject.

DJI plan to release a handheld mount for the new Zenmuse cameras. A number of accessories have been announced for enhanced video recording, including: DJI Focus, a battery charging station, DJI CINESSD and CINESSD station, and optional DJI Crystalsky high-brightness IPS monitors are available in 5.5 or 7.85inch sizes.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro And Inspire 2 Announced With New Cameras: Phantom 4 Pro Front 2

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro updates the Phantom 4, with a new 20 megapixel camera with a 1inch CMOS sensor and f/2.8-11 24mm equivalent lens for improved dynamic range and low-light performance. The camera features a mechanical shutter to eliminate rolling shutter distortion, and can record slow-motion 4K video at up to 60fps at a bitrate of 100Mbps. The camera can also shoot stills at 14fps in continuous shooting mode.

The drone has also been updated with additional side collision detection, improving obstacle avoidance so the drone now has sensors for the front, back and bottom. The flight time is now 30 minutes, and the drone can fly up to 45mph in sport mode. The drone is introduced with a new remote controller which come with an optional display, and built-in GPS, MicroSD slot and HDMI port. Intelligent flight modes have been updated:

"New intelligent flight modes make Phantom 4 Pro the smartest flying camera of its size, opening new vistas for creators, such as the new Draw Mode that allows operators to draw lines on the controller display and direct the Phantom 4 Pro to fly that route.

ActiveTrack recognizes common subjects such as people and bikes, then follows them from any angle while maintaining camera focus, and includes three new modes – New Circle, Profile and Spotlight.

Narrow sensing enhances obstacle avoidance sensitivity so the aircraft can fly through complex environments like narrow doorways. TapFly now works backwards and comes with a new Free mode that allows a pilot to set the direction of flight, turn the Phantom 4 Pro or tilt the gimbal without changing the direction of flight. With the new AR Route feature, operators will be able to tell the flight route on the screen.

As an additional safety feature, within a minute of losing GPS signal, the aircraft will automatically return to the last connected position and hover there precisely to wait for the pilot’s command. With the enhanced return to home function, the aircraft knows where it should be going from up to 984 feet away and avoids obstacles along the route." from DJI.
