Nitecore NFZ100

Nitecore has introduced a replacement battery for Sony Mirrorless Cameras (Nitecore NFZ100) that's 'smart' and connects to your smartphone via an app.

We've heard of smartwatches, even smart fridges but a smart battery? It's probably a product no one really needs but if you decide you do, it connects to your smartphone via the Nitecore NNERGY app which will show you how much power the battery has left (we're pretty sure that cameras still show you this information). Plus, as DIY Photography pointed out, to send the information to the app, the battery will use power so, essentially, it could be draining its own power to send data.

The Nitecore NFZ100 is compatible with the Sony A7 IIIA7R III and A9 mirrorless cameras and there are some plus points to it such as the ability to see if your battery has got to a point where it needs replacing and if you're not planning on using the battery, you can reduce the charge so it can live a little longer by selecting the 'storage mode' which discharges the battery to 70% after it's unused for 10 days. The battery also uses firmware to ensure it's compatible with the latest Sony cameras.

Nitecore NFZ100 Battery Specs:

  • Voltage: 7.2V
  • Capacity: 2,280mAh
  • Energy:16.4Wh
  • Compatible Models: A7 III, A7R III, A9
  • Free compatible app
  • Weight: 82.5g
  • Dimensions: 52mmx38.7mmx22.5mm

I seem to recall , Sony having their own high capacity battery, maybe for the A series cameras.

Expensive ,but a higher capacity, would be just right for mirrorless cameras.

I wonder if Sony will introduce their own high capacity battery , or if this company is successful ,buy them out.

I see the only advantage of this battery is the ability to update its firmware after a firmware update from the camera manufactures reduces, its ability to be efficient, or work properly.
