Dorr Slim Pack Pure Backpack Handling

The most unusual feature on the backpack is that it opens at the rear, rather than the front. If you need to put the bag down to access your kit when out shooting, it's the front of the bag which will get dirty, not the back which will in turn get you dirty. When you open it up the mesh cover allows you to see your kit, you need to open this as well to access it. This means it'll take longer to get to your camera, but is an extra security feature. Internally the bag is separated into nine sections, with the orange padding removable to make more room for larger items.

On the inside of the opening flap is velcro strap which holds in place the separate removable padded case, which is ideal for an iPad, notebook, paperwork, magazines etc. In total there is one internal section, with a external pouch and zipped pocket.

On the outside of the bag is a pouch, zipped pocket and two handles, the traditional one on the top and one on the front. There is also a strap and a small pocket (kept in it's own zipped pocket) for your tripod to be held securely on the side of the bag. On the bottom of the bag is another zipped pocket which holds the integrated raincover.

All the zips on the bag are chunky and easy to get hold over. The straps are well padded making it comfy and the bag can be further secured to your body with waist and chest straps.

Dorr Slim Pack Pure Backpack Performance

In the image above the bag is packed with an Olympus E-30 with a 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 lens attached and three other lenses (8mm f/3.5 fisheye, 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 and 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0). It is a bit of squeeze to fit all these in, so if you have any bigger lenses you are definitely going to need to remove some of the internal sections. If you are the owner of a mirrorless camera, such as Panasonic or Olympus with a variety of lenses, this bag will comfortably hold the camera with a lens attached and another six lenses. Either side of the section where your camera sits are two smaller pockets best suited to hold your lens caps. One problem is that once you have your camera and a few lenses in there isn't much room for other items that you'd carry on a days shooting, such as sandwiches or a flask.

Value for money

The Dorr Slim Pack Backpack is available for £39.95. This is a very low price for a camera bag of this type. Have a look at our complete guide to camera bags for more ideas of what's available.

Dorr Slim Pack Pure Backpack Verdict

When you first look at the Dorr Slim Backpack it doesn't look particularly exciting, but once you get in and have a look at all the features it has it is difficult not to be impressed. If you are looking for a bag to hold your DSLR and lots of lenses you're likely to be disappointed by the smaller internal compartments, but if you have a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and a range of lenses this bag is absolutely fantastic. Add this to the the additional padded case for a netbook / iPad, tripod and waterproof cover, you are getting plenty for your £40.

The Dorr Slim Pack is absolutely packed with features, keenly priced and is ideal for a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera user.
