EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Review: Data Recovery Wizard

Quick Verdict

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional is really easy to use and successfully recovered all data we deleted/formatted. With only 3 stages to the process, it really is software anyone can use to recover data effectively and installation is easy, too.

If you don't have a lot of files to recover, there is a free trial version of the software but the 2GB limit won't be suitable for all lost data situations and as it's so inexpensive, it's definitely worthwhile investing in the full version.

+ Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Can recover various files
  • Can be used with various devices
  • Preview data before recovery
  • Searchable results

- Cons

  • Can be slow when recovering a lot of data
  • Price is higher than competitors

Admit it, at some point, you've accidentally deleted images/files you actually still needed, had a bit of a panic, checked your whole PC in case they've magically transported somewhere else and then have just accepted that they're gone forever. It's ok, you're not alone as it's something many of us have done and will do again but there is software out there that can help you recover data, so you don't have to worry about losing precious images ever again.

One such piece of software is EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro which bills itself as the 'best data recovery software to easily and quickly recover deleted, formatted, or lost data from your PC, laptop, or removable devices.'

"With this data recovery software, you will be able to retrieve precious data whether it was lost by deletion, formatting, hard drive crash or virus infection," says EaseUS.

The software doesn't cost the earth and has the potential to save a lot of headaches but is it easy to use and, in an age where time is of the essence, does it do it quickly? Let's take a look.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Art Features

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Review:

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro can recover accidentally deleted files as well as data from damaged or formatted hard drives and even from the recycle bin on your computer. It can also undelete various file types (photos, video, emails, Office documents...) from memory cards, USBs, digital cameras, mobile devices and other storage media.

There are only 3 steps involved in the recovery process (which will cover in the next section), you can preview the files before committing to the recovery process and no data is overwritten.

As the software, pretty much, does what is says on the tin, there's not much else to discuss in terms of features apart from a free trial is available but the amount of data you can recover is limited to 2GB.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Performance

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Review:

Both PC and Mac versions are available but on test, we have the PC version which was quick to install. Once installed, the data recovery process is really quite straight-forward with three steps to follow: select, scan and recover. The User Interface is clean and simple meaning there's nothing to confuse you, and nothing is overly complicated.

To start the process, you need to select the device/location where the data was lost from and then hit the 'scan' button to begin the recovery process. You can specify a file location such as Desktop, Libraries, or Documents or you can select a hard drive, partition, or external storage device to scan.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Review:

A timer pops up giving you a rough estimate as to how long you can expect the scanning process to take and you can pause the process/restart it if you need to. It does have a habit of resetting itself but as an example, we got the software to scan a memory card, which the files had been deleted from, and 1194 files (12.39GB of data) were scanned/found in around 10 minutes. Obviously, the more data you have, the longer the process will take but you can leave the scan running in the background and get on with something else while it's running.

Once the scan is complete, you can filter what you want to recover and preview all of the files before fully recovering the device. There's a handy dropdown menu system as well as a search function and you can also filter the file type you see.

After selecting the files you want to recover, you can begin the recovery process by clicking the 'Recover' button. The software advises you to not save files to the same place you're recovering data from, which is important, as doing so will overwrite data and make it unrecoverable. You can easily select a different location for your files to be saved to via the interface, though, so it's another straight-forward process. The recovery process only took around 5 minutes to complete.

As well as recovering files that were deleted, the software also successfully recovered all data from a formatted memory card, too.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Review:

Closing the software pops up a feedback form which will return every time you close the software unless you ask it to not remind you and when opening the software up, Windows 10 always asks if you're happy for it to make changes to your PC. Both are a little annoying but nothing majorly negative.

If you're recovering RAW files, they will no longer have their original names/directories as they're assigned a name by the data recovery software. As a result, you'll have to check these files manually to rename and organise them. However, tag information is used to make them easier to identify. These tags include author of documents, artist of music, camera information of photos/videos etc.

You can also export the scan results by clicking 'Export Scan Status'. You can later import these saved scan results, by clicking 'Import Scan Status', to continue the data recovery process right where you left off.

Value For Money

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional is priced at £83.99 but currently, there's 50% off the RRP making the software a reasonable £41.99. There are other versions available, one which comes with WinPE and a Technician option which isn't really for the normal user.

There's also a free trial version available but this limits you to 2GB of recoverable data whereas the full version is unlimited.

Other data recovery software available includes Recuva which offers a free version as well as a pro option which is priced at £19.95.

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional 12.8 Verdict

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional is really easy to use and successfully recovered all data we deleted/formatted. With only 3 stages to the process, it really is software anyone can use to recover data effectively and installation is easy, too.

Yes, if there's a lot of data, it can take a while for the software to process the files but you're not waiting too long and you can leave the software running in the background while you do something else (or make a cup of tea).

If you don't have a lot of files to recover, there is a free trial version of the software but the 2GB limit won't be suitable for all lost data situations and as it's so inexpensive, it's definitely worthwhile investing in the full version.
