  • Some other companies offer cloud storage (EaseUS don't)

Backing up your photos and other files up is a really good idea as, after all, it's better to be prepared for the worst rather than losing all of your data when something goes wrong. So, instead of putting off something you know you should be sorting, why not acquire one of the many data back-up software options that are currently available and start backing up your precious images?

One popular choice is the EaseUS Todo back-up software so we've got hold of a copy for review to find out if a piece of software can really bring you peace of mind in the fact that should disaster strike, you'll be back up-and-running in no time.

EaseUS describe the software as 'easy PC/laptop backup software to protects your system & data against . from loss or damage,' and say it will 'Backup Your Crucial Data and Recover Entire System in Seconds...'

Let's find out if it can.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 11.5 Features

EaseUs ToDo Backup software has been around for a long time so the company has experience and time behind it. They offer options for home users, businesses and service providers but it's the Home version we have on test today. Windows and MAC users are both catered for and cloud back-up is supported but no storage is included in the price.

With the Home version, you can set-up automated back-up plans so you can, basically, forget about the process which is excellent and this automation can be set up for the operating system, hard disk, partition, file/folder and email data back-up. You can also upgrade your entire system and move everything from an old hard drive to a new one as well as do a complete, or incremental, system restore so if your computer crashes, you can restore from a system back-up.

Like all data back-up software, EaseUS back-up software can protect data from accidental deletion, system crash, virus attack and human error.

It's worth mentioning that there is a free version of the software available but you don't get advanced features such as Outlook email back-up/recovery and the ability to transfer to a different PC.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 11.5 Features:

  • File-level and image-level back-ups
  • Incremental or full back-up (up to 16TB)

  • Cloud back-up

  • Compatible with GPT/UEFI
  • Quickly create an exact copy of any partition/volume

EaseUS has worked hard on improving the user interface (UI) of the software to make it easier to use and now, the various backup options, along with a selection of other tools, can be found down the left in a column and you can hover your mouse cursor over each icon to see which particular backup method it is.

All of your backup tasks (once you have created some) can now be found in this window which makes them easier to manage as they're all in one place and, even better news, you can easily set-up automated backups so you don't have to remember to do it which brings peace of mind and after the first full backup, subsequent backups will take less time and occupy less space.

You can restore data from a previous backup and if you want to, you can even save several versions of backed up data on the same disk and if there's a particular file you want to find, backups can be mounted and searched through, too.

It's worth noting, in case you've not used backup software before, that you should close all other applications before starting any backup process and never try to save the image file to the partition/disk which you are backing up. You should also give an accurate plan name and description to each backup to make it easier to search/find a specific backup down the road.

You can do a full system backup, disk/partition backup, mail backup, cloud backup (Dropbox, GoogleDrive etc.), file backup or a smart backup where a scheduled backup is performed every half an hour, provided there is a change to the files, and a full back up will be made every 7 days (after the initial backup).

File backup is probably the main process you'll be doing as you don't want to load your computer one day, find something's gone wrong and you've lost all of your images. You can do this manually but we'd recommend setting up a scheduled backup so you don't have to worry about the process once you've configured the settings.

The UI couldn't be simpler, for all areas of the software, but particularly the scheduling section which has frequency, timing and backup method options for you to select from. You can also tell the software to wake the computer to run a backup and if a missed backup occurs, there's an option to run the missed backup when you boot your computer.

For those who don't want to run a full backup every time, there are options to do an incremental or differential backup. However, before doing these, you must do a full backup first as this will be what your incremental/differential backups will be based on. Doing a fullback up isn't quick but it is essential and you can leave the software to it while you carry on working on other things.

As for the other two options, an incremental backup will only save files that have changed since the last backup meaning it is the quickest backup method and also uses the least amount of space while the differential backup copies files that have been changed since the last backup so the process is slower than the incremental backup but still quicker than the full backup.

You can also keep several versions of the backed up data and you can restore to one of the previous versions. Plus, if you want to quickly find, view and copy a file, you can mount and search through a particular backup.

All of this backing up of data takes up room so even if you have a big external drive you're backing-up onto, you will run out of room eventually so the EaseUS software has an 'image reserve strategy' built-in which you can, basically, use to tell the software to remove data after a certain amount of time. You can also opt to preserve a certain amount of backups rather than saying how long you want to save data for if you prefer. To further save space, there are file compression options.

Value For Money

EaseUS Todo backup is available for £35.99 (including VAT) but currently, there's a 50% off discount available which makes the software a very reasonable price of £17.99. Other backup software available includes Acronis True Image 2019 (£34.99) and Paragon Backup & Recover (£65.95).

There is a free trial version of the Todo Backup software available but it does come with restrictions.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 11.5 Verdict

EaseUS Todo Backup has experience behind its name and it shows. The product is easy to use, well put together and offers all of the features you'd expect to find from backup software. Scheduled backups are a brilliant thing and the option to backup email is useful, too.

Some of the software's competitors do offer included cloud storage but it's not really an issue that EaseUS doesn't include it, it's just an added bonus.

If you're looking for easy-to-use software that does what it says on the box, EaseUS Todo Backup is well worth considering.
