To add to the Nikon Z series, Nikon has announced the new 24mp Nikon Z5, a more affordable full-frame mirrorless camera, with 4K video recording and 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilisation. Plus there's a new 24-50mm lens, and roadmap.

Entry-Level Full-Frame 24mp Nikon Z5 Announced: Z5

Nikon has announced the new Z5 - the Nikon Z5 is Nikon's entry-level full-frame mirrorless camera, featuring a 24mp full-frame sensor, 4.5fps continuous shooting, 4K video recording, 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, and dual SD card slots, as well as a magnesium alloy body. The Z5 is priced at £1719 with the new 24-50mm f/4-6.3 kit lens, and will be available in late Summer. The Nikon Z5 sits under the 24mp Nikon Z6, and 45.7mp Nikon Z7.

Nikon has also shared an updated lens roadmap (shown below), with a number of lenses shown, including a picture of the S-Line 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, plus two new teleconverters (TC-1.4x and TX-2.0x).

I don't think you should call a camera that costs over £1700 "entry level". I think that phrase might be applied to the Z50, at around £1000, though even that's still hugely more than many aspiring young photographers will be able to afford. To be classed as entry level, I feel it should be significantly (30% or so) cheaper than the Z6, which it isn't. This camera has followed the recent trend of substantial price rises that's occurred over the past decade or so that is making photography increasingly difficult to afford. For comparison, I bought the Nikon D200 (significantly above entry level) for £700 as soon as I could get my hands on one after its launch in 2006 but my annual salary is about the same now as it was then.
