ePHOTOzine member David Calvert, better known as contemporary dave on the site, has won first place in the Children's Portrait category at the highly prestigious WPPI Awards of Excellence 20x16 Print Competition.

The awards were held in March at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The awards attract the biggest names in the photographic industry from all over the world. This year, over 2000 images were submitted.

David's striking image also won him the UK Under 5's Portrait Photographer of the Year award at the Master Photography Awards last October.

Based in America, WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) is one of the world's biggest and most respected photographic associations. Their aim is to promote quality and excellence in wedding and portrait photography and to provide guidance and support to their members on running a successful photography business.

"When I received the email informing me that I had won, I couldn't believe what I was reading. I kept on reading it to check that it was true! WPPI's print competition is without question one of the world's most heavily contested competitions for wedding and portrait photographers. The judging is ruthless and only the very best work wins. To be told that your studio has beaten some of the biggest names in the industry worldwide, is a massive achievement", said David.
