Wild Horses of the Camargue
'More Dashing Wild Horses of The Camargue' by jennialexander

ePHOTOzine member jennialexander has been crowned this week's Photo of the Week (POTW) winner.

The POTW is picked by ePHOTOzine's founder and Editorial Director, Peter Bargh, once a week and here's why he thought jennialexander's photo, 'More Dashing Horses of The Camargue', was a worthy winner:

"We've seen a fair few Camargue horse photographs over the last couple of weeks. This one stands out most for impact.

These horses are seen running towards the photographer at speed through the Camargue's shallow marshland water. This is one technique I like to use - to get in front of a moving subject and photograph it as it approaches. I've done this with humans on several occasions as you know humans will make sure they miss you as they pass, but with horses you never know what to expect.

I imagine the thundering sound of the hooves was quite something and to shoot with a 95mm focal length means they won't have been far off, so quite a challenge of balancing nerves with camera controls.

A fast 1/800sec shutter speed has frozen the movement but the water splashes ensure the action is portrayed and an aperture of f/8 has delivered just enough depth of field for the horses to be sharp from front to back.

The framing is tight and the team position strong. A slightly tighter crop at the bottom to lose the beach and ideally a bit more width to give some space to left and right would improve an already breath-taking photo."

POTW winners now receive a £100 (Plus £15 p&p) voucher from Albelli - the Photo Book experts. Take a look at the Photo of the Week Gallery where all shots that have received the award are displayed.
