Spring is in the air, bulbs are popping up everywhere with beautiful bright flowers and photographers all over the country are thinking about getting out there in the fresh spring air. If you're heading out for a spring shoot, have a look at this round-up of some must-have products for spring photography:

Small Tripod

Vanguard VEO tripod

When most people think of spring photography, photographing flowers will always be at the top of the list. This is where a small tripod can come in handy as they are portable and their low level makes it easier to get in among the flower beds. A taller tripod which has a centre column which can tilt would also be a useful support as they make it easier to get close to your subject - have a look at the Vanguard VEO 235AB.

Kneeling Pads

If you're going to be kneeling down on wet, dewy grass and in borders, it's worth investing in some kneeling pads. These will not only stop your knees from getting wet, but they will also prove invaluable on rocky or hard ground that would otherwise hurt your knees. Kneeling pads come in a variety of styles but all are lightweight and very portable. The main styles are foam mats and knee pads - ideal if you're up and down a lot.

Reflectors come in different shapes, sizes and colours but you'll find them useful on dull days when you have to bounce extra light into your scene. Packs of white, gold and silver reflectors are available to help you control the colour of the light reflected. They're collapsible too so they'll be easy to transport. Flash Guns

Neewer flashgun

If your subject is underneath the shade of a tree, or in a wooded area, then a flash gun will come in handy as the light at this time of year can still be quite gloomy. They are also useful for adding a 'pop' of light to faces if you want to have a go at outdoor spring portraits. Teaming the flash with reflectors like the ones above should give an even light coverage on the image. There are third party camera flashes available for most of the big brands for a fair price, such as the Neewer TT560 pictured above.

Outdoor Clothing

Outdoor waterproofs

You never know what the weather might do at this time of year, so it's best to make sure you are well equipped with a waterproof coat and camera bag to keep your gear safe. It may also be worth taking an umbrella with you.The umbrella can also be handy as a shade creator/diffuser if the light is too harsh. A jacket like the Trespass Quikpac which compacts down really small will be ideal for taking out in case of rain.

Macro Lens

Tamron Macro lens

If you're planning on doing any close-up photography, then a macro lens is a must. A macro lens, or indeed a macro mode, if you're using a compact camera, will help you to capture beautifully crisp images of your subject with a lovely blurred background. Macro lenses are great for getting up close to your subject for a more abstract image. These features make them fantastic for shooting those spring flowers. A great macro lens that won't break the bank is the Tamron 70-300mm lens. Take a look at our top 13 lenses for macro photography for more inspiration.

ND Grad Filters can be really useful at this time of year for balancing out the exposure. An ND grad will balance out the brightness of the sky and the ground, so one isn't blown out or underexposed. If you're working near water consider pocketing a polariser too. This will cut the reflections on the water, reducing glare and giving a more natural image.
