Essential has announced the new PH-1 Android smartphone with a 360 camera accessory.
| Essential One in Camera PhonesEssential, a new company setup by the former CEO of Android, has announced the new PH-1 Android smartphone, with a number of cameras:
- 13mp colour rear camera, with f/1.85 lens
- 13mp black and white rear camera
- 8mp front selfie cameras with hyperfocal f/2.2 lens
There's also an optional 360 camera with dual 12mp f/1.8 cameras, and 4 microphones for directional sound recording. All of the cameras are capable of recording 4K video, and by using two cameras on the rear the camera is optimized for improved low-light performance. The camera also offers a true monochrome mode.
The smartphone features a 5.71inch edge-to-edge display with a 19:10 aspect ratio, and 2560x1312 resolution. On the back of the smartphone is a fingerprint sensor, plus magnetic connections for accessories. The phone uses titanium plus ceramic which Essential says that their phone is stronger than competitors phones, that tend to use aluminium. The smartphone will be available for $749 US with the 360 camera, or $699 without, and you can reserve the smartphone on the Essential website.
