Film photography fan Joe Greer has got some top tips to share with you on how you can master film photography so load your camera, click 'play' on the video from the COOPH team above and then go and have some analogue fun.
Tips from Joe include creating a logbook when you're starting out so you can remember what settings you used for specific photos and taking the time to analyze the scene that's in front of you so you know which focal length to use. For example, Joe likes to use a 28mm lens on his Leica M6 as it gives him a view that's more true to life. Joe also recommends using the highest number on your aperture ring as possible when starting out so you get more of the scene in focus.
Remember to take your time when selecting what films to use as there are a lot of options but this does mean you get the opportunity to experiment and try various types before settling on a favourite.
"It’s about finding out what works for you through lots of practice and that means taking lots of photos," Says Joe Greer.
When you are film shopping, you'll realise the major downside to film which is that it's expensive but don't let that put you off taking plenty of photos and don't be afraid to make mistakes either as the imperfections that can appear in film are often what make the photos even more special.
You shouldn't get too caught up in 'you must do this' either as even though advice is useful when you're just starting out, rules are meant to be broken and you can learn a lot by following your own path.
