Compatible with interchangeable M42 lenses and Fujifilm instax mini film, the NONS SL42 combines old lenses with the fun of instant modern film cameras.
| Film SLRs
Over on Kickstarter, there's a really interesting camera that combines instant film and M42 lenses to create an SLR instant camera that's compatible with hundreds of classic lenses.
The SL42 offers a wide range of functions including manual focus, adjustable aperture, shutter speed control, multiple exposures, flexible adaptability for a cable release and hot shoe for external flash. Also, with the single-lens reflex structure, you can easily see the real brightness and depth of field through the viewfinder.
"The M42 mount was first introduced by Carl Zeiss back in 1938 so there's a wide range of M42 lenses out there for you to experiment with."
As M42 lenses were designed to be used with 35mm film, you do get a unique vignette surrounding your image when printing it on Fujifilm Instax film but this just adds to the quirkiness of the process. The depth of the vignette also changes depending on what focal length you're using.
To use the camera, you simply mount an M42 lens to it, install batteries, load the film, choose a shutter speed, push a slider to replace the viewfinder, adjust the focus and press the shutter button. Then, to print your photo, press the film ejection button and wait for the image to be processed.
