The Nikon 18-300mm super zoom is for DX format Nikon DSLRs, and covers a huge16.7x zoom range. This latest lens is more compact and less bulky than its predecessor.

Weighing only 550g, the lens is light for one of this focal range. It balances well on the Nikon D7100, and will also not be out of place on Nikon's smaller camera bodies. A rubber gasket surrounds the metal lens mount, helping to prevent moisture and dust getting into the camera body.

The lens features a silent wave motor for autofocus and the manual focusing action is smooth and well damped, making it easy to apply small adjustments. A closest focusing distance of 48cm is average for this type of lens, and Nikon's Vibration Reduction system makes it possible to shoot hand-held shots at shutter speeds as low as five stops slower than the usual rule of thumb.

This is a convenient all in one zoom lens, ideal for someone who wants a wide range of possibilities for shots without having to change lenses. It features good sharpness in the centre of the frame, especially when stopped down, and has good build quality as well as an effective VR system.
