We compare the Fujifilm X-T2 with its predecessor, the X-T1, to see what the new mirrorless offering from Fujifilm brings to the table.
| Fujifilm X-T1 in Mirrorless CamerasThe Fujifilm X-T2 is the latest mirrorless camera to be introduced to the X-Series range, updating the X-T1 and sharing the flagship spot with the X-Pro2.
When Fujifilm gave us the opportunity to get hands-on with the new Fujifilm X-T2 last week, the X-T1 was also hanging around so we took the opportunity to compare them to see how they differ in design as well as technically.
When sat side-by-side, you can see that the X-T2 is a little bit bigger than the X-T1 but we're talking a few millimeters and it's a little heavier as well. Both cameras use a CMOS APS-C sensor, however the sensor in the X-T2 is now a 24 megapixel sensor, compared to the 16 megapixel sensor in the X-T1.
Design wise, the mechanical dials on the X-T2 are sat slightly higher, there's no video record button and there's a focus lever on the back. The X-T2 also has a three-direction tilting display (although, the screen sizes are the same at 3inch and have the same 1,040k-dot resolution), larger eyecup and a dual card slot, both of which are UHS-II compatible.
As for performance, the X-T2 shoots 4K video and overall performance, including AF and continuous shooting, has been improved. You'll also find custom autofocus options as well as presets you can pick from to suit the subject you're trying to capture. Film Simulation modes can be used when shooting video and a Vertical Power Booster Grip is available alongside the X-T2 that improves performance and handling, increasing the continuous shooting speed.
The EVF is the same resolution on both cameras but the X-T2's EVF is twice as bright as the one found on the X-T1 and it's meant to perform one stop better in low light. The refresh rate on the X-T2 has also been upped from 54fps to 60fps and if you use boost mode, this can go even further to 100fps.
You can compare the full specs of the cameras in the table below and do take a look at our hands-on with the X-T2 for more details on the new mirrorless camera.
Fujifilm also announced the release of a new flashgun and also the availability of new firmware for the X-Pro2. A new lens roadmap has also been introduced with a 23mm, 50mm and 80mm lens now in production.
