Google Pixel 2 Smartphones & Clips Camera Released

Google have announced the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones along with a new wearable camera that captures spontaneous video moments called Clips. 

Google says you'll get free unlimited storage for all your images and videos in original quality. They also say it's among the highest rated smartphone cameras with excellent low light capability, smooth video capture and beautiful portraits. The phones will replace the Pixel and Pixel XL phones released in 2016.

Both phones feature a 12.2-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.4 aperture. The Pixel 2 features a 5 inch AMOLED screen while the Pixel 2 XL has a 6-inch pOLED screen. The rear camera is capable of shooting 4K video at 30 frames per second as well as 1080p at 30fps, 60fps, 120fps and 720p at 30 fps, 60 fps and 240fps. 

The phones are available with 64GB and 128GB storage, and are retailing for £629 for the Pixel 2 and £799 for the Pixel 2 XL. They have an aluminium body and are water and dust resistant.

Also announced was Google Clips, a new compact and wearable camera that can recognise expressions, lighting and framing to capture spontaneous videos and images so you don't have to think about pressing the shutter. It captures motion photos without sound that last several seconds to help you remember key moments. It has a 130 degree field of view, and captures 15 frames per second. 

It can learn to recognise familiar faces, so it starts recording when you're with family and friends, and even the family pet more often. The camera operates via an app but it doesn't need to be connected to the internet - meaning you can view at any time without internet connection and your moments are kept completely private. You can save any of the frames captures as a separate photo and the camera has 16GB of storage. It's available for $249.
