GoPro HERO6 Camera

Value For Money

The GoPro HERO6 Black is priced at £499.99 which is not only £100 more expensive than the HERO5, it's considerably more money than some other action camera alternatives. Already mentioned is the YI 4K+ which offers 4K but not electronic stabilisation, waterproofing without casing or the faster frame rates but it is priced at around £340. Other cameras to consider include the Nikon KeyMission 170 for around £330, the ISAW Edge available for around £230 and the new Sony DSC-RX0 which offers similar specs to the HERO6 Black but it is considerably more money at £800.

GoPro HERO6 Black Verdict

With the hype that surrounds GoPro cameras in-general, I expected to be blown away by the performance of the GoPro HERO6 Black and even though it produces decent video and images, it just didn't 'wow' me.

The ability to shoot 4K at 60fps as well as footage you can turn into slo-mo video is, of course, appealing. As too is the ability to stabilise footage and the wider dynamic range but is it almost £500 appealing? For me, personally, I'd say not but if you regularly capture video footage and want a small camera that packs a lot of punch then the HERO6 Black probably is something you'd consider purchasing.

Another point worth considering is that fact that you have to purchase mounts if you don't own them already which will also add to the overall cost.

Of course, you could opt for the HERO5 which is currently £100 cheaper than the HERO6 Black but you, obviously, don't get the newer features built in but this may be something you can cope with for the saving you get.

Having said that, on paper, the GoPro HERO6 Black is the best action camera you can buy to date and it will certainly keep GoPro fans happy.
