A portrait of a mother gorilla holding her new baby as it explores has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade.

The image, taken by ePz member JonnyNI is titled 'Gorilla and Baby at Dublin Zoo' and here's why it stood out to us this week:

This image caught our eye because of the simple yet effective background - giving the perfect canvas to allow the viewer to focus on the gorillas. It's rare to be able to capture an image in captivity with such an unobtrusive background - and one that tones in with the colours of the gorillas to make a modern, clean looking capture.

The photo has been well cropped leaving the main point of focus on the mother's eyes, which have a real warmth to them. The cheeky baby is clearly a handful, leading to the unique and playful pose that has been caught here. This is a well thought out photo that has captured an intimate moment between mother and baby perfectly.
