NOPO Camera

NOPO Cameras are a Spanish camera company who hand-craft pinhole cameras from a variety of wood types and after finding a niche in Spain, the brand is hoping to expand into other markets in Europe.

Each of the pinhole cameras is made by hand and are constructed from walnut, cherry and birch using handcrafted techniques and new technological processes such as laser cutting, computer numerical control cutting (CNC) and 3D printing.

Over on their Kickstarter page, NOPO says: "Each camera is conceived for efficient and easy use: just load your film, use the marks on the camera for framing and shoot! Once you are done, simply rewind and the film is ready for film processing."

The cameras feature central shutters, which are constructed from 14 different wood and steel pieces, and work with a simple twist. It has a 52mm thread so filters can be placed on the front to add colour or specific effects.

NOPO are hoping to bring 5 cameras to the wider market which have slightly different dimension, aperture sizes, focal lengths and angles of view.

You can find out more information on the project over on the NOPO Kickstarter page

For those who like quirky cameras, you'll probably be interested to hear that the NOPO cameras aren't actually the first wooden cameras to hit the market has back in 2006, Olympus introduced a wooden prototype at Photokina that was constructed from Japanese Evergreen wood, but it never saw the light of day. Earlier this year, a wooden camera hand grip was introduced for the Sony RX100 III and there's even a wooden tripod on the market which we reviewed back in 2011.
