Samsung has unveiled the new Galaxy S10 range, which includes a quad camera smartphone, and we were at the launch event to find out what the new camera phones offer photographers.

The long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S10 range was officially launched last night, with the premium smartphones featuring either dual, triple or quadruple rear cameras!
Introduced on the night were the Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+ and S10 5G which give everyone, from those who want all of the premium essentials in a compact package to those who want the biggest and best specs in a smartphone, something to think about when it comes to their next camera phone purchase.
"Featuring the all-new Dynamic AMOLED display, next-generation camera, and intelligent performance, the Galaxy S10 line offers consumers more choice and sets a new standard for the smartphone," says Samsung.
The S10 5G is, as the name suggests, 5G ready and it's also the biggest of the 4 smartphones announced and has the most cameras - 4 to be precise. Both the S10 and S10+ have a triple rear camera, with the + version been a little bigger than the S10 and the S10e is the smallest of all but only has dual rear cameras.
Screen-to-body ratio is maximised thanks to the introduction of the Infinity-O Display which is Samsung's terminology for a front-facing camera that's built into a circular screen cutout rather than in a top-notch or a dewdrop (which is proving to be the fashionable choice in 2019).
Samsung smartphones have always been popular among those who want to capture quality images with their smartphones (the Galaxy Note 9 still sits at the top of our best camera phones top list) and the S10 range continues this trend by adding new camera technology and AI, making it easier than ever to capture photos/video with smart devices.
New to the S10 range are:
- Ultra-Wide Lens: A first for the S Series, the Galaxy S10 offers an Ultra-Wide Lens with a 123-degree field of view.
- Super Steady & High-Quality Video Recording: The Galaxy S10 offers Super Steady recording with digital stabilisation technology.
- AI Camera: The Galaxy S10 features a Scene Optimiser that recognises what's in front of it and optimises camera settings and there's also a Shot Suggestion option which automatically composes the shot. In addition, the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) will help you capture better images without you having to set the camera up manually.
Let's take a look at each Galaxy S10 smartphone more closely...
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
The Galaxy S10 5G, is, obviously, 5G ready and it also has an impressive 6.7-inch Wide Quad HD+ display, quad rear camera and a whopping 4500mAh battery.
On the back, you find 4 cameras: Telephoto 12MP PDAF F/2.4, Wide-angle 12MP Dual Pixel AF F/1.5-F/2.4, Ultra Wide 16MP FF F/2.2 and a 3D depth sensor. Dual Optical Image Stabilisation is built in along with 0.5-2x optical zoom which can be extended to 10x with digital zoom. On the front is a 10MP Dual Pixel AF, f/1.9 camera.
Samsung Galaxy S10+
The Samsung Galaxy S10+ is slightly smaller than the S10 5G with a 6.4-inch Wide Quad HD+ display, triple rear camera and 4100mAh battery. But, unlike the S10 5G which has a 10MP Dual Pixel AF, F/1.9 front-facing camera, the S10+ has a dual selfie camera which offers a 10MP Dual Pixel AF, F/1.9 lens along with an 8MP, f/2.2 lens.
The rear camera consists of a Telephoto 12MP PDAF F/2.4 lens, Wide-angle 12MP Dual Pixel AF F/1.5-F/2.4 lens and an Ultra Wide 16MP FF F/2.2 lens. Optical Image Stabilisation is built in along with 0.5-2x optical zoom and digital zoom up to 10x.
Samsung Galaxy S10
We're getting smaller still with the Galaxy S10 with its 6.1-inch Wide Quad HD+ display and 3400mAh battery. The same triple camera as found on the S10+ is built in but you only get a 10MP Dual Pixel AF F/1.9 camera on the front rather than a dual shooter.
Samsung Galaxy S10e
The final model in the new Galaxy S series is the Samsung Galaxy S10e which is more compact in design, offers slightly fewer cameras but has a reasonable price tag.
The screen on the Samsung Galaxy S10e measures 5.8-inch (Full HD+) and the battery is a moderate 3100mAh.
As for the cameras, the rear set-up consists of Wide-Angle 12MP Dual Pixel AF F/1.5-F/2.4 and an Ultra Wide 16MP FF F/2.2 lens. 0.5x optical zoom is built in along with 8x digital zoom and on the front is a 10MP Dual Pixel AF F/1.9 camera.
