The Plugin Site is pleased to announce Version 3.01 of Harrys Filters and Version 1.01 of the PhotoFreebies for Windows. Harry's Filters is a free Photoshop-compatible plugin containing dozens of useful image effects. The PhotoFreebies are a collection of 11 freeware plugins with various effects for digital photos. Both can be used with dozens of different image editing applications, e.g. Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro, Photo-Paint, PhotoImpact and many others.
Version 3.01 of Harrys Filters now works under Windows Vista even on computers that have 2 GB or more RAM. Six new preset files were included.
Like Harrys Filters 3.01 the PhotoFreebies 1.01 plugin package was also updated for Vista compatibility. A new plugin called Chroma Negative was added, which inverts the colors of an image without making it negative. As a result cool colors get warm and warm colors get cool. The color of all plugin dialogs was changed to bright gray.
Additionally our Plugin Installer tool was included in the installation of Harrys Filters and PhotoFreebies. At the end of the installation the Plugin Installer tool appears and lets you conveniently copy the plugins to your image application's plugin folder. Plugin Installer currently supports 25 image applications and 85 different versions of them.
About Harrys Filters
Harrys Filters 3 offers 69 effect filters and more than 120 effect presets. It is our most popular plugin, because it has been downloaded several million times since it was first released in September 1997.
It works on RGB images with 8bit per channel and includes filters for changing the image color or mood, for creating artistic effects, producing colorful gradients or impressive patterns, warping images, adding special noise effects and encrypting and decrypting images with 64 bit keys. Furthermore, it produces various zoom, mirror or paint effects as well as simulations of natural phenomenons like tornados, lightning and flames.
All effects can be accessed on a single dialog, so you do not need to hunt through menus to choose other effects. The Play feature displays animations in the preview which are produced by random effect parameters. This can be a big help for exploring the possibilities of each filter effect.
The PhotoFreebies collections contains sepia effects, saturation gradients, black and white conversion, color space transformations and many more effects. All plugins can be used on 8bit and 16bit RGB images, except the Histo Fix plugin which only works on 8bit images. The Remove Transparency plugin on the other hand works in most image modes provided by Photoshop. Some of the plugins have a dialog with a zoomable preview and adjustable controls whereas others are applied instantly without displaying a dialog.
The Sepia plugin of PhotoFreebies lets you apply five sepia effects. The Desaturation Gradient plugin gradually desaturates the image in four possible directions. Luma Negative turns the image into a negative without changing the colors whereas Chroma Negative only inverts the colors. The B/W plugin converts the image into a grayscale version, that is often better than Photoshop's Grayscale mode. Histo Fix fixes the chopped histogram of repeatedly processed images. The Remove Transparency plugin makes a transparent layer fully opaque again. Last, but not least there are also four plugins that transform RGB values into HSL or YCC values and back again without leaving RGB mode. That allows you to manipulate the images in color spaces that are not offered by most image applications.
Availability & System Requirements
Harrys Filters 3.01 is available for Windows, but Version 1.0 can also be used on the MacOS 8/9. A MacOS X version of Harry's Filters is planned for the near future. The PhotoFreebies are available for Windows only. A MacOS X version will become available soon.
Harrys Filters and PhotoFreebies are freeware and can be downloaded from thepluginsite.com . There is also a commercial and enhanced version of Harrys Filters called Plugin Galaxy with even more sophisticated effects. PhotoFreebies belongs to the PhotoWiz product series, which also contains four commercial plugins.
