Havana Environmental Portrait Wins 'Photo Of The Week' Accolade

A portrait that's as much about the environment as it is the subject has won our 'Photo of the Week' (POTW) award this week. 

'The Cubans 2' is an eye-catching portrait thanks to the colourful surroundings as well as the carefree attitude both subjects appear to have. Environmental portraits allow the viewer to form a narrative and this shot gives the imagination the opportunity to wonder who the people are and how they are related. The bright red sofa and pop of colour from the chair contrast well against the deteriorated walls and have connotations all of their own. It's great that Simon Morris (BURNBLUE) didn't feel the need to crop in and focus on the people as by including the interesting tiles and surrounding detail has made a much more fascinating portrait.
