Hearst Corporation has announced the winners of the third Hearst 8 X 10 Photography Biennial, an international competition that recognizes the work of eight up-and-coming artists whose vision will shape the future of the creative media landscape.

Winners were selected by some of the world’s foremost photographers, gallery owners and magazine professionals. The 2013 Hearst 8 X 10 Photography Biennial garnered more than 1,600 entries from across the U.S. and 78 additional countries. The winning photographs were revealed at a gallery celebration at Hearst Tower on 2 April.

This year’s winners and honorable mentions hail from the United States, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the U.K. The work of these talented newcomers, who are spotlighted as the next generation of emerging photographers, will be showcased in two exhibition spaces in the atrium of Lord Norman Foster’s Hearst Tower, Hearst’s acclaimed New York City headquarters. The Tower’s Alexey Brodovitch Gallery and Hearst Gallery will feature an installation of approximately 100 photographs from 2 April until 31 August, 2013.

"Great photography is essential to what we do at Hearst, and over the years we’ve published the work of legendary artists, from Richard Avedon and Lillian Bassman to William Klein and Mary Ellen Mark,” said Hearst CEO Frank A. Bennack, Jr. “I’m delighted to recognize these emerging photographers—it will be wonderful to see where their art takes them."

'From The Train - Trees In Winter' .. I swear I deleted a few from my camera, almost identical to this one. Damn my impulsive finger ... On a positive note we actually have one image with people smiling instead of the usual durges of human misery and post industrial decay that usually populate these lists.
