In COOPH's latest video, they have turned their attention to how you can capture creative images that have a serious message - to raise awareness of current issues.

Protecting the environment and climate change are at the forefront of everyone's minds at the moment, and COOPH has thought up some great ways to bring home the reality of what some of these issues mean for us.

Plastic food

The first creative photo-op they show us involves using a mixture of food and man-made materials to create well-known dishes. These include sliced buttered bread with a sprinkling of chopped plastic straws and a sushi roll made from rice, straws and plastic bags.

Pollution and the earth

Next, they look at painting an inflatable globe to draw attention to different polluting nations. They then partially fill it with water, deflate it and let the paint flow off into the sink, to display how the earth can be destroyed.

Nutritional awareness

Another major issue of the moment is our meat consumption - beetroot is used to create a meaty-looking substance for shock value. A fennel bulb is broken up and formed into a chicken carcass to raise awareness of eating green. Sugar cubes are used in a drinks cup to illustrate how much unnecessary sugar is in soft drinks. Sugar is addictive, so photos insinuating that it is a legal drug are taken.

Compositions can be created of portraits, using discarded and scrunched up paper to add texture, representing our throwaway society. Compositions can be created to create metaphors for lots of issues.
