How To Make Awesome Backgrounds For Portraits With Smoke

Learn how you can give your portraits a dramatic twist with the help of a smoke machine.

| Portraits and People

If you're looking for a new way to add a little creativity to your portraits without spending a fortune, why not have a play around with a smoke / fog machine? Photographer Gavin Hoey did just that for one of his latest photography shoots and captured the process in a rather neat video tutorial you can view here.

The tutorial offers advice on using smoke in images as well as some simple lighting tips, plus there's some Photoshop tips at the end which cover controlling contrast and using tools such as Patch and Clone.
