Easy Colour Matching Using ColorNavigator Elements

When photographers purchase an EIZO monitor from the ColorEdge CX and CS series LCD monitor range, they receive free photo colour matching software titled ColorNavigator Elements. The software is easy to use and with four simple steps, photographers can ensure the colour between their prints and monitor match. Here's How:

1. Basic Monitor Settings

Ensure your monitor is connected to the PC with a USB cable before launching the ColorNavigator Elements software.

Inserts the software disc.

Double-click on the icon to start ColorNavigator Elements.

When the ColorNavigator Elements menu appears, make sure you read the instructions so you understand the procedure then click the 'Start' button. 



Next, check the name of the monitor you are using appears in the Monitor Selection dialog box then click 'OK'.

When the menu appears, click on '1.Set Up'. You then just need to follow the instructions that appear on screen, clicking 'OK' and 'Next' when directed to. By doing so, the monitor will automatically adjust to the suitable settings for displaying photos.

2. Print A Reference Photo For Colour Matching

You need an image you can use for comparison to ensure your colours match. You can use one of your own images or the matching sample recommended by EIZO.

Here, we are talking through the method of using EIZO's matching sample, so click on 'Print a picture supplied by EIZO', follow the instructions and click OK.

Right-click on the displayed photo data, click on 'Open With' and select the name of the software you'll be using. Once the image is open, print the image.

Please note that in order to match monitor colour with printed ones, it is important to appropriately select the colour settings for the retouch software that is used to display photos. In Photoshop and Elements this is found under 'Color Settings' but all editing software is different so please do check. 

3. Capture The Displayed Photo

When you have the print, turn your attention back to the ColorNavigator Elements software but still keep the image open in your chosen editing software.

Click on the 'Capture' button found at the top of the window and click 'OK'. Drag the corners of the displayed frame to enlarge it so that it exactly covers the area of the image open in your editing software. Once adjusted, click on 'Capture'. 

4. Adjust The Screen To Match The Printed Photo

The imported photo is now displayed in ColorNavigator Elements and you need to adjust the monitor screen to match the printed photo while viewing it by using the following steps:

Match the Luminance by moving the slider left or right.

Match the colour by selecting the thumbnail which is closest to the printed photo. The thumbnail which is selected is enlarged and displayed to the left. The amount of adjustment can be changed using the slider on the side.


As skin and sky tones are particularly difficult to match visually you can separately adjust these tones via the 'Feature Colors' tab. 

When finished, click on the 'Complete Adjustment' button at the top left. 

The adjustment result will now be stored in the built-in correction sensor (it takes a few seconds to complete the process once you've clicked 'OK'). 

To finish the monitor adjustment click Exit. 

Post-Adjustment

The built-in will save the settings and readjust every 200 hours to ensure the new display settings are maintained. You can also create and save up to 3 adjustment results that can be changed between.
