Huawei P30 Pro Announced With Triple Cameras & 40MP

It's official! The Huawei P30 Pro, and P30, are real and take the flagship crown in the Huawei line-up of smartphones. 

Richard Yu, CEO Huawei Consumer Director, introduced the new smartphone devices to a huge crowd in Paris with a big emphasis on AI, photography and connectivity. 

"The ultimate evolution in mobile photography," says Richard Yu.

Huawei want to 're-write the rules of photography' and on the Huawei P30 Pro you get a main 40MP f/1.6 camera, upgraded from last year's f/1.8, that's supported with a 20MP ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 lens and an 8MP f/3.4 5x telephoto lens. Digital zoom takes this much higher but you know how we feel about digital zoom and OIS can be found on the main/telephoto lenses. There's also PDAF and Laser AF built-in.

On the P30, you get a slightly different camera set-up with a 40MP f/1.8 wide-angle lens, 16MP ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 lens and a 8MP 3x telephotpo f/2.4 lens.

ISO reaches ISO409600 and during the press conference, Huawei promised big things from the built-in handheld night mode so we'll be interested to see just how well it performs when we put it to the test. On screen, the results were impressive as were the images taken with the improved bokeh mode, and macro images as close as 2.5cm can now be captured, too.

The front facing 32MP f/2.0 is built into a dewdrop at the top of the device rather than featuring as a cut out in the screen, as Samsung has done with their latest flagship device, and bezels are kept small to ensure the smartphone remains comfotable to hold while an impressive screen size remains. 

Huawei P30 Pro Front and Back

Talking of the screen, the P30 Pro sports a 6.47inch (1080x2340) screen while the P30 is slightly smaller at 6.1inch (1080x2340). The actual weight of the smartphone has, also, got lighter but with a bigger 4200mAh (3650mAh on the P30) battery, power hasn't been compromised. Fast charging is also available on the P30 Pro (40W). 

AI is another big feature of the Huawei smartphones with AI HDR+ offering machine learning for better photos and video has been improved with better stabalisation and performance in low light. 

As expected, the overall design is rather exquisite and we'll be getting hands-on with the P30 Pro shortly to see how it feels in use and if it's comfortable to hold so keep an eye on the review section of the site for an update on this. Huawei did say that the P30 Pro is smaller and lighter than the iPhone X, if you're looking for a comparison. 

Single or Hybrid Dual SIM is available and the P30 Pro is dust/water resistant with a rating of IP68.

The Huawei P30 Pro is powered by a Kirin 980 chipset and has 8/128GB memory while the P30 has 6/128GB. The smartphones will be available in 8/256GB and 8/512GB versions (depending on region) which is extendable with a memory card. Colours range from black, twilight gradient, red and ice white.

UK Pricing Information: 

The Huawei P30 Pro is priced at £899 for the 128GB version, or £1099 for the 512GB version. The P30 is priced at £699 for the 128GB version.

The HUAWEI P30 Series will change users’ expectations of smartphone photography. The 1/1.7-inch HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor looks at light in a fundamentally new way. The RYYB HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor deviates from the traditional RGGB Bayer filter by replacing green pixels with yellow pixels, yielding a high maximum ISO rating of 409,600 on the HUAWEI P30 Pro and 204,800 on the HUAWEI P30. Huawei P30 Pro Lenses

The new SuperZoom Lens unlocks a superior level of zoom photography in a slim-line device design. Through a new periscope design, the SuperZoom Lens supports high fidelity magnification of 5 times optical zoom, 10 times hybrid zoom and 50 times digital zoom. A prism element in the telephoto camera bends light at a 90-degree angle to maximize focal length while minimizing camera height, without disrupting device design.

The HUAWEI ToF Camera unleashes the imagination. Unique to the HUAWEI P30 Pro is a HUAWEI ToF Camera that captures depth-of-field information to deliver accurate image segmentation. Precise distance measurement allows for the simulation of multiple levels of bokeh. The Super Portrait feature captures even the smallest details, such as individual strands of hair.
