An ice cave in Alaska that resembles a keyhole has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade - find out why we thought it deserved to win this week.
| ePHOTOzineAn image of an ice cave in Alaska has been awarded the Photo of the Week accolade by the team this week.
The image, titled 'Keyhole' is by ePz member CraigBill, and here's why this image stood out to the team:
This image immediately catches the eye due to the interesting shape of the ice, but it also carries with it a message about the state of the glaciers around the world. Craig touches on this point in the description - the cave in the image is most likely now melted - and this is the fate of all the ice caves in the Alaskan glaciers.
The image has been composed well, with the snow trail which has blown into the cave leading the eye out and to the view of the mountains beyond. The shape and smooth textures of the ice really are a wonder to behold, and this particular example does look like an old-fashioned keyhole. The colours of the sky beyond and the deep blue shades of the ice add to the cold, wintery feel of the image.
