What To Shoot With The NX 12-24mm Lens : Samsung NX 12 24mm ED Lens (5)

The 12-24mm f/4-5.6 ED is an ultra-wide angle zoom lens providing an angle of view equivalent to 18-36mm in 35mm terms. It includes i-Function control and is available for around £320. Here, we list some photographic situations when this lens will be ideal:

Landscapes

When capturing vast expanses of land, using a wide-angle lens will enable you to fit more into the frame. It'll allow you to emphasise the sky as well as feature the landscape without having to compromise on one or the other. The zoom here will also enable you to cut out unsightly objects from the sides of the frame, too, without having to alter your position.

Architecture shots

Shooting images of buildings in the city can be enhanced by using a wide angle lens. This will allow you to capture images of the skyline that won't be possible using longer lenses. Looking up at the building from the foot of it can be a great way to get an alternative angle with a wide angle lens, too. Getting up high to capture sweeping city skylines in the early evening just as everyone starts turning their lights on is another great way to utilise this lens. You could also try going for some more abstract shots of buildings, too.

Flowers/other macro subjects with a twist

Using a wide angle lens might deform flowers and other macro subjects somewhat, but when used in an artistic way this can add to your images. The 12-24mm lens has a closest focus distance of 24cm, which still allows you to get up close with your subject in camera. Experimenting with the positioning of the subject in camera will give you an idea of what the lens does to the subject, allowing you to make an informed judgement on in what position it will work best.

To create more space inside/ capture the whole room

Wide angle lenses have long been the tools of wily estate agents, to try and make rooms in houses seem deceptively big in frame. However, the same effect can also be used in museums and when taking images indoors that require you to be able to see as much of the space as possible with little maneuverability available for the photographer. This can be especially useful for images of groups of people, or large objects where other lenses might have forced you to cut part if it out of the frame.
