Snaperture is an all-in-one camera trigger device that has plenty of unique features and is smartphone compatible for improved remote use.
| Industry NewsThe Snaperture is a new, unique camera trigger that's designed to make it easier for photographers to capture time-lapse images and photos where you have split seconds to capture the action.
Originally, Snaperture's creator, engineer Joe Zanrè, intended the device to be for his use only, however, once he had 3D printed the case, he saw the potential of launching it as a consumer product.
How Snaperture Works
Snaperture, which is compatible with any digital camera that incorporates a remote input port, uses sensors to monitor the environment and captures a photograph when a predetermined event occurs. The sensors react to light, sound, movement and distance to the target, and the trigger events can even be cascaded. The laser sensor can be utilised with the distance sensor, allowing the subject to be captured when it occupies a specific location. This unique feature is ideal for use with moving subjects. An internal real-time clock adds the capability of an intervalometer and other timing-related triggering.
"This is already a fully engineered, fully manufacturable product, with meticulously developed software, and has been used to produce many stunning photographs, easily outshining those taken by current market offerings," says Joe.
Compatible Smartphone App
Joe's original prototype incorporated a keypad and matrix display for inputting trigger criteria, however, these were removed, and data input is now carried out via a smartphone app. This allows the device to be used in a remote location, as well as adding convenience.
The smartphone app is simply for data input, rather than triggering, so there is no delay due to OS latency or bandwidth considerations. Also, changes to smartphone protocols will not affect operations.
Included Water Drop Photography Accessory
As well as the Snaperture unit, a water drop assembly is provided, along with the necessary cabling. The water solenoid valve is operated by the Snaperture itself, with millisecond accuracy, so there is complete control over all the variables when producing single or colliding water drop images. No longer does it require a dedicated wet-lab in order to capture water drop, or popping balloon, images. As the images show, these activities can now be carried out in a table-top setting. Also, Snaperture coordinates all the events involved in balloon-popping shots, an operation that usually has photographers wishing for an extra pair of hands. Snaperture coordinates the flash firing and the shutter operation while the camera is in bulb mode, as well as ensuring that overexposure is avoided.
Automatic-focus
Snaperture even focuses the camera prior to capturing the subject, eliminating the constraint of using only the manual-focus mode. This feature is invaluable when the subject’s position is not absolutely certain beforehand, such as with the movement detection sensor.
Longevity has been designed in
In the unlikely event of a failure occurring, the Snaperture's geometry and architecture allow for repairs to be carried out easily. Also, the operating firmware can be updated locally by the user if bug-fixes are ever necessary. This means that firmware updates can be used to introduce performance improvements as more sophisticated operating techniques are developed. This is truly a product you will be using for years to come.
How Do I Get One?
Snaperture is currently seeking funding so the project can be completed and made available for purchase. In the past, similar products have tried to get funding this way and some have failed, however, Snaperture is a completed, fully engineered, fully manufacturable product at this very moment. No further development is required; your investment will go mainly towards the tooling and process to produce injection-moulded cases. Furthermore, Snaperture is debt-free, with no creditors whatsoever.
"In short, once the funding target has been achieved, there is absolutely no possibility of this product failing to be developed, which is a rare claim from a Kickstarter campaign and a rare opportunity for backers," says Joe.
