11mmf/4 in Interchangeable Lenses

Irix 11mm

Irix has announced a new 11mm f/4 ultra wide-angle lens for DSLR cameras.

The new lens has inherited solutions from the 15mm f/2.4 lens including a focus lock mechanism, infinity click feature and an intuitive and user-friendly hyper-focal scale.

Like the Irix 15mm, the new lens is available in 2 versions. Firefly is the standard version and is made of lightweight composite, with anti-slip rubber coating focusing ring and clearly printed markings. There will be also a premium version available, which is the Blackstone, with a durable aluminium and magnesium body that ensures foolproof protection of your lens. Blackstone's engraved fluorescent markings reflect the UV light to enable easy operation in low-light conditions.

The Firefly version will be offered in a set with soft lens pouch, while the Blackstone version will be secured in hard lens case. It is also worth mentioning that as with the Irix 15mm lens, the user gets an additional rear cap in package.

All Irix lenses can be used in even the harshest weather conditions. Both versions of the 11mm lens are equipped with a weather-sealed construction that protects the interior against dust and moisture. Thanks to inner seals they are also protected from accidental water splashes – two seals are around focus ring and one seal on the bayonet mount.

The Irix 11mm lens will initially be available in Canon and Nikon mount, with a Pentax mount available later on. It will be priced at 635 Euros for the Firefly version and 865 Euros for the Blackstone version. The 11mm lens will be premiered at The Photography Show, 18-21 October, stand number C31.

If it is optically as good as the 15mm it will be another cracker, the 15mm is biting on the heels of the Zeiss 15mm for less than a third of the price.
